The International Logo Hatred Association.
I hate logos.
Specifically, I hate being asked for them by founders.
“Need a Quick logo Oli”
“Edit my logo, Oliver”
“I designed a logo with AI, can you format it properly pls.”
Please leave.
Or better yet, stay, and I’ll explain why it’s a pointless ask.
When you’re starting a brand, asking for a logo as a standalone item is like showing up to a wedding wearing a tie, and nothing else.
As an absolute minimum, you need a very basic visual identity.
Logo, colour, typography, imagery.
Pair these with a creative direction and good design - you’re off to a great start with little investment.
A logo on its own has zero use to you. If you use a good logo on its own with no other branding elements, you cheapen the logo. If you use a bad logo on its own you might be on-brand, if the intention to be a rubbish brand is on-brand.
Not to mention that if your logo is being designed with 0 creative direction - the overall aesthetic the brand is striving for - your creative is doing a bad job.
No, you don’t need to plaster the logo on your deck, today.
No, you don’t need to put the logo on your socials immediately.
Why build without a blueprint?
First impressions count, building beautiful takes time, effort, and investment (although with The Free Brading Movement it doesn't have to (shameless).
Agree or disagree? Let me, Oliver, or Oli, know in the comments or a strongly worded email (hello@mused.design).
